Spirit of the Wind for Kids II: A Native American Bead-Making Workshop happened on Saturday, July 18, from 10 AM to 2 PM, at the Weed Community Center's Grand Room, located at 161 E. Lincoln Ave, in Weed, CA 96094, completely FREE OF CHARGE for the participants.
This was Spirit of the Wind's second event, especially crafted for kids, conceived by our CEO, Daniel Pruett (Cloud Eagle), and produced by him and his wife, Fernanda Froes-Pruett, with help from our amazing team of volunteers, including Sary Dobhran.
We hosted kids and their parents at an Arts & Crafts station with beads and necklace materials, where they could create their own bead ornaments and learn about the Native American Beadwork Tradition.
Beadwork designs often carry symbolic meaning, reflecting cultural beliefs, tribal identity, and spiritual connections to the natural world.
We had a drum circle featuring Native American storytelling and songs, special guests, and lots of fun!
We hosted Karrol Martin, an amazing face-painting artist from Eugene, OR, to create beautiful designs for the kids, parents, and participants.
And we had pizza from the Pizza Factory in Weed, CA, for lunch, with water, iced tea, and soft drinks.
EVERYTHING was FREE OF CHARGE FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS!
This event was broadcast live on our social media.
Our focus is to bring Youth and Culture together through our Arts & Crafts activities and to keep the Native American Traditions alive!

"Hey there! I'm Karrol Martin from Eugene, Oregon.

I'm an entrepreneur with many resources.
I love to create by writing, singing, and even painting!
Currently, I'm working as a face-painting apprentice!
I enjoy history, and I try to travel as often
as I can.
Experiencing varied cultures has greatly advanced my interest in self-awareness and growth.

Daniel Pruett
Daniel Pruett (Cloud Eagle) is of the Wintun Nomlaki Tribe of Northern California.
He became the President/CEO of Spirit of the Wind in January of 2025 with a mission to help the organization grow and focus on having activities especially designed for kids.
Fernanda Froes-Pruett
Fernanda Froes-Pruett is a Brazilian-American professional musician, graphic designer, and webmaster.
She became Spirit of the Wind's Marketing & Communications Director in January of 2025, and then the organization's Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer in June of 2025.
Together they conceived the event series Spirit of the Wind for Kids, where our "Little Eagles" learn more about our Culture and leave a positive legacy for future generations.
Our first event, Spirit of the Wind for Kids: A Native American Drum-Making Workshop, took place on July 19, 2025, at the Community Center in Weed, CA, and was free for participants.
Children and their parents learned about Native American Culture, Values, and Traditions by building a fifteen-inch Elk hide hand drum from start to finish, as well as the importance of this tradition to the Native American Peoples of the United States.
Native American Beadwork:
Native American Beadwork is a vibrant, culturally significant art form using traditional materials like shell, bone, and stone, later incorporating European glass beads, to create intricate designs on clothing, jewelry, and ceremonial objects, serving as powerful storytelling, identity expression, and a means of preserving ancestral knowledge through techniques like loom, appliqué, and netting. It varies by tribe, with iconic styles including Plains floral, Southwestern turquoise, and Eastern wampum, telling stories of nature, cosmology, and history while connecting generations.
